PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Screen time is defined as time spent watching TV, playing video games and using electronic devices like phones and tablets, and the amount of time your child spends in front of a screen needs to be monitored closely.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child should only spend one hour per day in front of a screen. There are concerns that too much screen time can impact communication skills like socialization, language development and attention span. Even overall behavior can be impacted.

A new study in the Journal of the American Association of Pediatrics has found the impact of screen time in the first year of life may be even greater — and may potentially lead to developmental delays.
