Update on March 4, 10:45 a.m.
Due to rain in the forecast, PennDOT’s planned closure of the southbound lanes on I-95 between March 4 and 7 has been canceled. PennDOT crews may still close a single lane of I-95 South, weather permitting. That would take place from March 5 through 7, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., on I-95 between Market and South streets. But for now, no overnight closures will take place this week.
Original story follows:
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Penn’s Landing CAP project will create more overnight closures on southbound I-95 next week.
All southbound lanes of the interstate will close through the construction zone from Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to PennDOT.
Crews will be setting up a long-term traffic shift between the Vine Street Expressway and the Morris Street on-ramp, said PennDOT spokesperson Brad Rudolph.
The lane shift will give crews space to build new piers to support the new cap over the highway between Walnut and Chestnut streets, he said.
During the work, the ramp from eastbound I-676 to southbound I-95 will also be closed.
After next week’s work, PennDOT doesn’t plan any more complete closures of I-95 for the CAP project this year.
