PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An illegal dirt bike collided with an SUV in Frankford Monday night, leaving one woman badly injured and another clinging to life.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. at Kensington and Castor avenues, right under the SEPTA El tracks.
Police said two women were riding a dirt bike south on Kensington Avenue. A Ford Explorer was going north when the driver turned left onto Castor Avenue. The dirt bike driver went around an SUV and slammed into the Ford Explorer, knocking the two women off the bike.
“Both females were unable to get up,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “One was completely unresponsive. The other was screaming in pain.”

The women are both in their early 20s, police said. The unresponsive driver suffered head and neck trauma. Police were not sure if she would survive. The passenger had injuries to her torso and is in stable condition.
The Honda dirt bike they were riding was not street-legal, Small said, and it did not have a license plate or any lights.
“More than likely, other drivers on the road can’t even see this vehicle since it doesn’t have a headlight or any lights,” he added.
The man in the SUV drove about a quarter of a block before stopping. He cooperated with investigators on the scene, police said. Officials did not indicate that charges would be filed.
