PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Camden County are serving up flu shots in their new drive-thru clinics in an effort to help keep people safe from COVID-19.
The county's free flu shot in those brick and mortar offices with in-person waiting lines could be a thing of the past.
“Due to COVID, we've changed all our flu sites into a drive-thru set up,” explained Rachel Honrychs with the Camden County Health Department.
She said officials want to limit contact and reduce the risk of contracting the virus, so they're streamlining the process with the outdoor clinics.
Residents will get screened by a nurse when they go through the drive-thru lane, get their shots, and then drive out.
The Health Department kicked off the annual program with a new look Tuesday at Dudley Grange Park in East Camden.
Louis Delacruz was in one of the first cars to drive up and said he felt an urgency to get his shot.
“I think it was really more important this year, especially with the pandemic, just making sure you keep yourself safe. I'm just doing my part. That's all each individual can do, is just do their part,” he said.
Officials say it's important for people to get flu shots because, as some areas see an increase in coronavirus cases, less people with the flu means less patients a hospital has to worry about.
