CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A steady stream of voters filed through the entrance of the election office in Camden County to hand deliver their ballots as the deadline for New Jersey residents to register to vote approaches.

Jarvis Mayweather, one of the voters who went to deliver their ballots at the county's election office, was there because he wanted to ensure his vote is counted and that his ballot doesn't get lost — even though voters can track the status of their ballot online.

"I feel like it will get lost in the mail," he said.

Inside, the machines were already processing ballots while some people filled out registration paperwork on the spot.

There is a bipartisan effort to get the job done.

"A lot of things are happening inside this huge warehouse," said Sara Booker, the Republican administrator, who said stacks upon stacks of ballots are coming in every day.

"They are going to run them through the machines, sort them into town order and receive them into the computer system, so that way, a voter can go online to see if we received their ballot or not," she explained.

Kim Campisi, the Democrat administrator, said both sides will need to approve each signature that comes back.

"Both sides need to be represented, just as it is in politics," Campisi said.

Camden County has sent out about 400,000 ballots and so far, about 90,000 have been returned.

New Jersey residents have until 9 p.m. Tuesday night to register to vote in the presidential election.
