Jan. 6th Committee subpoenas Pa. state Sen. Doug Mastriano in fake GOP electors plot

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Jan. 6th Committee has subpoenaed Pennsylvania state senator and Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano. The congressional panel is looking into a plot that would have sent fake electors to cast their electoral votes for former President Donald Trump in states that President Joe Biden won.

Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), in a letter to Mastriano, said the Pennsylvania lawmaker has to submit documents by March 1 and appear for a deposition on March 10.

“Based on publicly available information and information produced to the Select Committee, we believe that you have documents and information that are relevant to the Select Committee’s investigation,” Thompson wrote.

“For example, we understand that you have knowledge of and participated in a plan to arrange for an alternate slate of electors to be presented to the President of the Senate on January 6, 2021, and we understand that you spoke with former President Trump about your post-election activities.”

Mastriano has yet to comment on the subpoena. He was in attendance at the rally but has maintained that he did not enter the Capitol.

“We would like to better understand these statements and expenditures, events that you witnessed or in which you participated, and communications we believe you may have had with national, state, and local officials about the outcome of the November 2020 election,” Thompson wrote.

Michael Roman, a Philadelphia native who was Trump’s director of Election Day operations, also received a subpoena. So did his deputy, Gary Michael Brown; Arizona state Rep. Mark Finchem; Arizona GOP Chair Kelli Ward; and Michigan GOP Chair Laura Cox.
