PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A medical assistant at Carbon Health Urgent Care in Jenkintown was arrested and charged Monday for having inappropriate contact with at least two patients.
On March 1, a woman told Abington police that while she was at the urgent care center for a pre-employment drug screening, employee Ramon Garcia informed her they needed a urine sample and that she was randomly selected to be observed while doing it.
Officials said Garcia watched as she pulled up her dress and urinated in a cup. After the sample was taken, he gave the woman his phone number and asked if she would go out with him.
A little over a week later, on March 10, another woman went to police saying she was inappropriately touched during an exam at the same urgent care facility.
She said Ramon introduced himself to her as her nurse and led her into an exam room, where he told her to undress. He then put on latex gloves and conducted a pelvic exam on her, “penetrating her with his fingers,” police said.
The woman said he made verbal advances and asked if she was in a relationship or had any fantasies before giving her his number.
Ramon was arrested on Monday during his shift at the urgent care center, where he is employed as a medical assistant — a job that solely includes signing patients in, taking vitals and, if directed, taking blood samples.
He is not licensed, trained or permitted to conduct exams or observe sample tests.
He was charged with aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, and two counts of invasion of privacy.
Officials are investigating if there are more victims. They ask anyone with information about him to call 267-536-1102.
