PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The National Museum of American Jewish History, on Independence Mall, will be inducting two new honorees into its hall of fame next month during its annual gala.
The museum's Only in America Gallery/Hall of Fame has about 20 inductees. The award recognizes the achievements and contributions of American Jews from the fields of science, music, history, philosophy and entertainment, said museum President and CEO Dr. Misha Galperin.
He says this year illusionists Harry Houdini and David Copperfield will be honored.
The public is invited to observe an hour-long celebration online, during which Cooperfield will perform from Las Vegas.
“It is free to all comers, and if you’d like to contribute, and if you’d like to sponsor, it is certainly welcomed both before and during the show," Galperin said, "but we would like as many people as possible to see it, to enjoy it, and to join us and David Copperfield and his friends.“
The live stream takes place on Dec. 12, the third day of Hanukkah, at 8 p.m. It can been seen through the museum's website or Facebook page.
Past inductees include Albert Einstein, Sandy Koufax, Jonas Salk, Steven Spielberg and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
