COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — KYW Newsradio has a new Hall of Famer, one with a powerful story of the impact one place, one school can mean to a young person.

Perkiomen Valley High School has inducted our Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert, from their Class of 1993, into the school's Hall of Fame.

He was a swimmer at Perkiomen Valley, and he's apparently given that talent to his daughter.

"She's already better than me, and she's seven," he admits with a laugh. His daughter does youth swimming in the same pool he practiced and competed in at the school.

Jim's being honored for his contributions to Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley, particularly for his decades of service here at KYW Newsradio.

He credits PVHS for guiding him through one of the most traumatic journeys of his life.

"I moved here in March of 1989. My dad died in December of that year. I was new here," Jim poignantly shared.

"Fortunately, I had the swim team and just this incredible community. That's why Perkiomen Valley means so much to me. That community was there for me when I needed them the most."

Jim has given that commitment to others as well, as a kidney donor, volunteer and advocate for organ donations among so many ways he's impacted this community.

Congrats, Jim!
