PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia prosecutors are again seeking to jail a man who they say drove several weapons from Virginia to Philadelphia, where votes were being counted during the 2020 election.
Joshua Macias and alleged partner Antonio Lamotta are awaiting trial for illegal gun possession and election interference.
Authorities said the two drove hundreds of miles to the Pennsylvania Convention Center the day after the presidential election. Philly police received a tip from the FBI in Norfolk, Virginia, and they nabbed the armed men in their parked Hummer on 13th Street.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Macias violated his bail conditions by posting on social media and attending political rallies.
“They came up here with loaded weapons to get as close as they could and do who knows what at a place where votes were being counted in a democratic election,” he reiterated. “Back in the vehicle is an AR-15 with 117 rounds, swords. Then they get out on bail and their first stop is the U.S. Capitol [on Jan. 6], where we have them on video.”
Krasner’s office has filed a motion asking the judge to revoke Macias’ bail, citing evidence of a live video of him at a trucker protest in Washington, D.C., and a political rally for a Virginia candidate “who wants to execute everyone involved in getting Biden elected,” he said.
“These are dangerous people. They are doing dangerous things with dangerous people. They should be locked up,” said Krasner. “They should’ve been locked up from the jump.”
A hearing is scheduled for next week.
