PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After telling the judge they were hung on some charges, the jury received instructions to keep deliberating on Monday in the trial of Maurice Hill, the man accused of shooting six Philadelphia police officers in 2019.
Hill has been on trial for nearly two weeks, and faces dozens of charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. The case stems from a shootout on Aug. 14, 2019, in which six officers were injured during a standoff in North Philadelphia.
On Friday, jurors sent a note to Common Pleas Judge Diana Anhalt stating they had reached verdicts on some charges but were hung on many others. They specifically asked how the charges related to self-defense claims.
Throughout the eight-day trial, the jury heard testimony from each of the officers who were injured that day, a DNA expert, crime scene investigators, and Hill himself.
There has been no indication yet as to which specific charges the jury has reached verdicts on. Deliberations are set to continue on Monday.
