PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 23-year-old Montgomery County man has been charged with first-degree murder, accused of shooting his father, then trying to cover it up as a suicide.
Just after midnight on Feb. 1, Justin Wilson called 911 and said his father, 61-year-old Kevin Wilson, had shot himself.
In the affidavit of probable cause, State Police said when troopers arrived at the home on Dewees Place in Trappe, Justin told them the two had argued — he called his dad a bad father and told him to shoot himself.
He said he was in the hallway and saw his father shoot himself. He later said he was walking away from his father’s room and heard but didn’t see the shooting. In a later interview, police said Justin told investigators he was in his room playing a video game.
Police said there were obvious signs of a struggle in the bedroom, and the gun used in the shooting was registered to Justin Wilson, purchased less than a month before his father’s death.
An autopsy found what investigators said is evidence inconsistent with a suicide, and the criminal complaint said family members immediately suspected foul play and not suicide, stating that the next morning Justin asked if he would inherit the house for free, and noting he would often call his father “fat” and a “loser.”
If you or someone you know is considering or exhibiting warning signs of suicide, the crisis lifeline is available 24 hours a day by dialing 988.
