Chief calls Officer Mark Todd's efforts 'a true act of heroism'

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Kennett Square police officer is being hailed as a hero after rescuing someone who was inside an SUV as it was submerging into a creek.

The rescue happened by a bridge on West Cypress Street on Monday morning in Kennett Square Township.

Police Chief Bill Holdsworth said that Officer Mark Todd found the person inside the SUV as it was sinking into West Branch Red Clay Creek.

He took off his police equipment and went into the water.

When Officer Todd noticed the person going to their rear seat as water was filling the vehicle, he broke the window and pulled the person out while the vehicle was submerged.

"A true act of heroism was displayed by this officer today," Todd said.
