PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The man accused of killing a young Philadelphia woman who was missing for weeks last fall is expected to appear before a judge Monday for a hearing to determine whether the case will move forward to trial.

Keon King, 21, is charged with murder, kidnapping, and several related offenses in the shooting death of 23-year-old Kada Scott, whose disappearance in October sparked a weeks-long search by police.

Scott was last seen after leaving her overnight shift at an assisted living facility in the Chestnut Hill section of the city on Oct. 4. Authorities said she was in contact with King shortly before she vanished and believe she was shot in the head soon afterward.

An anonymous tip led investigators to the wooded area behind the vacant Ada H. Lewis Middle School, where her remains were found Oct. 18 in a shallow grave and later confirmed. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the head.

King has been held without bail. Prosecutors have also filed additional charges against him, including robbery, abuse of a corpse, theft, and conspiracy, and have said they are investigating whether others may have been involved.

A reporter will be in the courtroom, and more details will follow after the hearing.
