PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Zoo is closed to the public this month as they make improvements, but there are some special insider tours being offered.
“It’s kind of a private tour of the zoo and you get the whole place to yourself,” said Dani Hogan, director of Mission Integration at the Philadelphia Zoo. She says there are two Key to the Zoo Tours to choose from: Conservation in Action and History at America's First Zoo.
The first is an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with meet-and-greets for $500. It includes lunch with one of the zoo’s animal experts who has traveled to conservation programs and done work in the field. Hogan says it also features some special claw-crafted artwork from a porcupine who paints.
The second tour, as we’re sure you can guess, explores the zoo’s 150-year history. Tickets for that tour, which takes place in the afternoon, are $150.
“This is going to be the first time we are trying this and we think this is going to be really special,” Hogan said.
