PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There’s a new mobile wellness center rolling through the streets of Philadelphia aimed at getting families the medical help they need.

Meg Grant with Keystone First says their Mobile Wellness and Opportunity Center is aimed at helping Medicaid members overcome social, economic and environmental barriers to achieve and maintain a healthy life. And over the next month, their focus will be getting kids ready for school.

Grant says they want to help kids in fiscally poor communities because oftentimes parents do not know where to turn when it comes to medical issues.

“We know what the issues are in the community and we are just super excited to bring the services that are needed into each community instead of trying to bring people to those services,” she said. “We realized that engagement is super super important, so we want to meet people where they are.”

Inside the bus, they provide dental services, lead screenings and adolescent wellness visits.

And there are a number of other services they’re offering to help with social determinants.

“Things like financial literacy, zumba, exercise, everything that makes a community well, we’ll be providing throughout the van.

Grant says they plan on having a fleet of these vehicles hit the roads over the next few years as they work to get underserved communities the help they need.
