KYW Medical Report: Acknowledging COVID-19 milestones

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It's been more than two years since COVID-19 was first documented.

There is a great deal to complain about when it comes to COVID-19. The symbolic doors that kept many of our society's flaws hidden from view have been opened wide by COVID-19. Certainly, there are many concerns, but there is also a positive side that we should celebrate.

COVID-19 illness was first documented in December 2019. The virus was sequenced 40 days later, and by Jan. 14, 2020, the NIH and Moderna designed an mRNA vaccine.

Trials began two months later, and by mid November, both Pfizer and Moderna had greater than 90% efficacy.

One year and 10 days after the first documented illness, health care workers were eligible for the lifesaving protection of the vaccines.

Sometimes it is good to celebrate good news. Opening doors can reveal the negatives, but also the positives.
