PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When you take a medication or a supplement, you usually take it for a desired effect; something that will benefit you. But every medication, vitamin and supplement — whether over-the-counter or prescription — has an unintended impact.
Most are not a big deal, but some can be. For instance, certain medications that your doctor prescribes can actually make your blood pressure go up — even if you are on medications to lower the pressure.
Certain antidepressants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and even estrogen supplements can raise the pressure.
Of course, you should not stop taking these medications on your own. One of the best things you can do is talk with your doctor about the medications that you are taking and go over them closely.
