PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Climate change can cause stress in our environment, but for a growing number of people, it is also causing personal stress.
For baby boomers, it is not hard to recall the anxiety provoked by the Cold War and the fear of a nuclear attack. Similarly, numerous reports have shown 9/11 had a dramatic impact on many who witnessed the events of that tragic day.
The same can be said for COVID-19, but percolating below the surface is another very real source of anxiety.
According to a recent study that looked at causes of stress among 10,000 people between the ages of 16 and 25, more than 60% said they are extremely worried about climate change.
A study like this is important because young people may not always verbalize their emotional concerns.
As is the case with all of these issues, conversations addressing the issue head-on can be helpful.
