PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is easy to get wrapped up in high-tech and pricey medical developments aimed at fighting disease, but it is often the most inexpensive things that make the biggest difference in our overall health.
Things like diet and exercise are far more important than many medications and procedures, as is childhood development.
A new report takes a look at the parent-child relationship and its psychological impact, examining the “attachment theory.” The results are clear: Teens who have been raised in a family with parental support and consistent communication develop greater interpersonal skills, as well as empathy.
Empathy may be the most important personality trait because it not only helps a young adult assimilate into society but it also builds lasting interpersonal relationships. These individuals tend to pass these characteristics on to the next generation as well.
