PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the major concerns about the COVID-19 vaccines is whether or not there will be long-term side effects.
Rare side effects are just that — rare. Thus far, the studies that have been done have not identified major issues. But the more people receive the vaccine, the chances increase.
In addition, all of us are different and can have unique reactions. Some adverse health effects seen may be due to coincidence and not vaccine-associated, but as vaccines are distributed, each and every side effect needs to be monitored and traced.
The good news is that in health care, monitoring does not stop.
The safety thresholds for vaccine approval are higher than other medical interventions, such as drugs, because they are being put into people who are healthy.
