NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Pennsylvania State Police corporal admitted to viewing child sexual abuse materials and using state police computers in the Skippack barracks to make deepfake pornographic images of coworkers and people he interacted with through his role as law enforcement.
Stephen Kamnik, 39, of Havertown, pleaded guilty to nine felonies and several misdemeanors, including child sexual abuse material, multiple counts of unlawful use of his police computer, and trespassing.
Kamnik admitted in court that he viewed illicit images of a child younger than 10 years old on his phone, and that he used his police computer and workstation to create AI-generated pornography. He said he used his credentials to access PennDOT driver’s license and ID photo databases to get photos to make those deepfakes.
Kamnik also admitted to sneaking into the women’s locker room at the Skippack barracks and photographing coworkers’ bras and underwear that they had stored in their lockers while on duty.
Authorities said there is evidence on his work computer that he had a hard drive with thousands of pornographic images, but Kamnik admitted to destroying that hard drive when he learned of the investigation.
Kamnik also pleaded guilty to charges that he had a handgun in his car that was taken in a 2010 burglary.
Kamnik remains suspended without pay. In addition to a lengthy prison sentence, he faces at least 15 years of registration as a sex offender.
He is scheduled for sentencing on July 8, following a sexually violent predator assessment.
