KYW Medical Report: The ones at greatest risk are those who are not vaccinated

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some Phillies players have chosen not to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which raises a question: Can you contract COVID-19 if you have been vaccinated?

Once a person is vaccinated against COVID-19 — regardless of the type of vaccine received — they can contract the virus. The chances of getting the virus are dramatically reduced, but it can happen.

However, once vaccinated, the virus has minimal impact. In fact, most people don’t even know they have it.

The problem is for those who are not vaccinated. If they get the virus, they are no different than those who got the virus early in the pandemic, with all of the risks and long-term damage. They also are far more likely to spread the virus once it sets up camp in their bodies.

As for the athletes, the ones at greatest risk are those not vaccinated.
