KYW Medical Report: Guidance for a safe July Fourth

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Things are returning to normal, which points to a far more enjoyable Independence Day than last year.

As the COVID-19 clouds begin to clear, many of us will have a chance to bask in the sunlight of a national holiday. We will finally have the freedom to spend time with family and friends, but many of us in health care have concerns about potential injury.

The first concern is automobile accidents — millions will be on the road again this year. Please be alert, do not drink and drive, and wear seat belts.

The other issue is fireworks-related injuries and burns. Fireworks sales are up, and that is not a problem if people are responsible. Only experienced individuals should light fireworks, and alcohol should be avoided if you are the designated person in charge.
