KYW Medical Report: How omicron ebbs and flows across the US

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Obviously, the U.S. is a massive country, but the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how the nation’s size can impact health care.

The omicron wave has pushed through countries in Europe, and it makes sense to follow its interventions — or the lack of interventions — and see the rise and fall of cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

In the United States, it is not that simple due to size, different approaches to prevention, weather and the spacing out of residents. At present time, much of the Northeast appears to have been through the worst of the omicron surge, but take a trip to Georgia or South Carolina and it is like going back a few months in time, as cases and hospitalizations are surging.

It is important that national and local leaders work together and use lessons learned from the earlier exposures to support those who are being attacked later — not an easy task.
