PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines could actually be contributing to the spread of the virus.

I will freely admit that I did not see this one coming. Certainly there has been excitement and renewed optimism about a COVID-19 vaccine development, which was expected.

But there has been another reaction that public health experts have anticipated: human nature.

There are many who have become emboldened by news of a vaccine, and instead of coming to a logical conclusion of wearing a mask and social distancing with the thought that it won't last forever, they have viewed the vaccine as a reason to become even more carefree and ignore the public health warnings right away.

Public health experts anticipated this but they can only hope their warnings are heeded because in the case of this virus, as we know, irresponsible behavior impacts us all.
