KYW Medical Report: COVID-19 and mental health in marginalized communities

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Every American has felt the emotional impact of COVID-19, but especially people with limited resources.

For underserved and under-resourced individuals, COVID-19 has exacted a great toll. One area of particular concern is mental health.

The inability to get away or escape has not been uniformly felt across different communities because the pandemic’s impact has not been evenly applied. Those from marginalized and under-resourced communities have borne some of the greatest burdens of the virus’ health and economic consequences.

We are early into the process of providing support for those who are dealing with pandemic-related mental health crises. It is important to recognize the issue and provide support.

If you are feeling the psychological impact of the virus, reach out to your doctor. Don’t sit back.
