PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As vaccines continue to be injected in people’s arms, we must not forget the basics of preventing the spread.

Over one year into the pandemic, we have learned a great deal about how the virus spreads. At one time, there were many who thought spread from surfaces was more important than respiratory spread.

But studies all point to the majority of transmissions occurring as a result of infected people spewing out large droplets and small particles called aerosols when they cough, talk or breathe.

These can be directly inhaled by people close by.

Surface transmission is not thought to be as significant of a risk, but it is still a risk.

It is important to remember that frequent disinfection of surfaces and objects touched by multiple people is important. Another key is to continue washing hands and frequently using hand sanitizers.
