KYW Medical Report: Some who battled COVID-19 are still struggling to shake the effects

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As we emerge from the worst days of the pandemic, there are hundreds of thousands of people who can't leave the past behind.

With more than 600,000 deaths from COVID-19, it is somewhat easy to minimize the issues faced by those hospitalized for the disease or those who fought it at home. But physicians are starting to treat many of these people, dubbed "long-haulers," and the refrain is common: Many are not able to shake the impact of the virus.

The latest information from the CDC looks at rehabilitation clinic information between January 2020 and March 2021. According to those reports from throughout the country, COVID-19 patients are having a more difficult time than those fighting back from cancer.

In addition, these patients tended to be younger. The key issues are endurance and fatigue.
