PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Empty chairs at the holiday table accompanied by the skyrocketing numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths has taken a toll on all of us.
Health care workers have met the challenge as have so many Americans and for many, the reality of caring for patients quarantined and all alone in hospital beds without family present has exacted an emotional toll.
Those who serve have often cried in private only to return to the battlefield.
It has been bleak — even the occasional smile has been covered by an n-95 mask and smothered by a face shield.
The vaccines are being distributed and as each arm is pricked with a needle, there is an injection of hope and knowledge that there is an end in sight to this battle.
