PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Researchers at Harvard University are looking at ways to use improved COVID-19 tests as a way to go on the offensive against the virus.
Until now, testing has been primarily used to diagnose people who may have COVID-19 and any of their close contacts who may also be infected.
This was primarily a result of a shortage of the molecular tests most commonly used, and slow turnaround time for results.
The development of new rapid tests, primarily antigen tests, and the fact they will become more widely available, will enable communities to start widespread screening of the highest risk people.
This will allow public health officials throughout the country to target those who could spread the virus.
