PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When it comes to COVID-19, the biggest mistake any of us can make is to assume we know everything. For instance, the term natural immunity is filled with confusion.
Natural immunity from COVID-19 refers to infection-induced immunity. Unlike vaccine-induced immunity, this natural immunity comes from actually contracting the virus.
There are many people who assume natural immunity is lifelong, or at least that it lasts longer than the vaccine. That assumption is wrong in both instances — protection is just a few months, and it does not last as long as vaccine protection.
Risking both short- and long-term health issues for such short-lived natural immunity is risky at best, and another reason why COVID-19 is so problematic.
