KYW Medical Report: When will it be safe to gather in groups?

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As a growing number of people get vaccinated, many are asking when it will be safe to begin to join groups of others without the fear of contracting the virus.

Once you are vaccinated, the battle against COVID-19 is not over. Certainly, you should feel a great sense of comfort that if you are exposed to and infected by the virus, your body will be much more able to mount an immune response — and you may not even have symptoms.

And, the odds of hospitalization and severe illness are dramatically reduced. However, you should still wear masks and social distance because there are still many people who have not been vaccinated, and they could get the virus from you as an asymptomatic carrier.
