PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We have all seen the spikes in COVID-19 following big holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day, but many scientists are expecting Thanksgiving to cause spikes far worse than those holidays.
This could lead to a dramatic rise in hospitalizations as we approach Christmas and the holiday season.
Thanksgiving is America's biggest holiday in terms of travel, and people will cram into airplanes and dining rooms, potentially passing on the virus. Remember, one crucial fact about coronaviruses like the one that causes COVID-19 is that they're seasonal.
The virus clearly does its greatest damage indoors and with people spending more than 15 minutes in a setting, especially when masks are either not worn or temporarily removed as in the case of eating.
