PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Why retire in sunshine and beaches when buggies and smorgasbords are right around the corner?

Lancaster, positioned roughly 70 miles west of Philadelphia, has been named one of the top five best places to retire in the country in this year’s ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

The other top cities are all in Florida:

1. Sarasota, Florida
2. Fort Myers, Florida
3. Port St. Lucie, Florida
4. Naples, Florida
5. Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Lancaster held the No. 1 slot for the best place to retire in 2019 and fell to No. 3 last year.

The ranking is based on data across the country’s 150 largest metropolitan areas in order to assess how well they meet Americans’ retirement needs. The list took several criteria into consideration, including residents’ overall happiness, housing affordability, tax rates and health care quality.

Among other Pennsylvania towns, Philadelphia was named the 43rd best place to retire. Harrisburg came in 36th place, ahead of Allentown, No. 40, and Reading, No. 51.

In U.S. News’ other rankings, Lancaster was deemed the third best place to live in Pennsylvania and the 74th best place to live in the U.S.
