WYNNEWOOD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) Main Line Health started the season of giving by recognizing those who have done just that throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Three staff members were celebrated Monday during the health care network’s annual Tree of Life ceremony. The charitable tradition, now in its 35th year, hangs holiday lights on a massive tree outside Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood.

People who donate to the hospital can dedicate a light to an individual, either a loved one or hospital worker who’s made a difference.

Names are inscribed in the Tree of Life commemorative book on display in the hospital’s lobby. Donations go toward improvements to patient care.

“This tree beams brightly every year, reflecting what Lankenau has done in the community,” said event chair Pat Nogar.

Monday’s ceremony recognized three staff members for their work and dedication to mental health throughout the pandemic.

“For me, the lights on the tree represent life and energy of persons past and present,” said Clarice Grant, one of the honorees. “I hope to continue to be a source of light and energy to future patients and families.”

Grant helped with a phone program for seniors who were stuck at home during the pandemic, making sure they had what they needed and someone to talk to.

Also honored was hospital chaplain Casey Bien-Aime and Laurie Watson, a retired nurse who aided in patient advocacy and volunteer work.

“The team members we’re honoring today have really gone above and beyond to really help with providing spiritual care and helping with whatever was needed through the pandemic,” said Lankenau President Katie Galbraith.
