PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you want to be able to vote in the upcoming general election, this is the last day to register.

Paper applications have to be in your county elections office by close of business. Postmarks do not count.

But you can register online at vote.pa.gov/register until 11:59 p.m.

There are 8.8 million registered voters in Pennsylvania. 4 million are registered Democrats, while 3.47 million are registered Republicans. 1.3 million are registered independent, no affiliation, or other.

This is also the deadline for Federal Postcard Applications for absentee ballots for military and overseas voters.

The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot is November 1, but county elections officials recommend applying as soon as possible, and returning a mail-in ballot as soon as possible to avoid any delays.

This is the first general election with new congressional and legislative districts. You can find your district on the Pennsylvania Department of State's website.

Among the contests in this election is the Senate race between Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and Republican nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz. The two are scheduled to debate Tuesday, which you can listen to live on KYW Newsradio starting at 8 p.m.
