PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For one day in August, the Lehigh Valley AAA IronPigs will change their name to the “Pitties” to raise awareness for area animal shelters and aid agencies.
The Lehigh Valley “Pitties” will take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at Coca-Cola Park on Aug. 11, part of Duke’s Delites Dog Adoption Night and Tail Waggin’ Day, presented by Abby Road Veterinary Hospital.
Animal rescues and adoption agencies will be on hand with pets ready to go home to a new family that night. Pitties-themed merch will be available for purchase.
The player-worn custom uniforms will be auctioned off to benefit Pals for Life, a local animal rescue nonprofit.
This isn’t the first time the IronPigs have gone to the dogs. They played as the “IronPugs” in 2019, the “IronWeiners” in 2021, the “IronMutts” in 2022, and the “Corgis” in 2023.
The first 1,500 attendees at the Aug. 11 game will also take home a collapsible dog bowl.
