PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Investigators are trying to figure out if high winds may have caused a light pole to fall Thursday morning, killing a woman who was walking the track at Roxborough High School.

Just after 11 a.m., a 73-year-old woman was walking along the track at Roxborough High when a wooden light pole fell over, striking her.

A bystander called 911, and Philadelphia Fire Department medics performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead when she was taken to Temple University Hospital.

School District of Philadelphia sources said the woman, from the community, often walked the track at the school.

The fence to the Roxborough field is now chained, and the district, in a statement, said activities on the Roxborough field were being suspended until further notice.

The district said it’s working with the appropriate agencies to inspect all wooden poles on its properties, and counselors and emotional health professionals are available at Roxborough to speak with students and staff.
