PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A tree fell onto a car in West Chester Thursday morning, killing the driver and injuring a child.

Just before 10 a.m., authorities said a piece of a tree fell onto the roof of an SUV on South Ship Road, north of Stonegate Court. Police said the 30-year-old woman who was driving was killed.

A child in the car was rescued and taken to the hospital for injuries. Officials did not provide a condition of the child or the child’s age.

High winds blew across the region on Thursday. Officials are investigating how the weather may have factored into the freak accident.
