LOWER MERION, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — The Lower Merion School District is one of two Pennsylvania affected by the widespread breach of education software PowerSchool.
The school software giant confirmed to its clients that it suffered a “cybersecurity incident” in late December, and that personal information of students and teachers from districts using its software were stolen. That personal information includes names, addresses and some health information from current and former students and employees.
Due to the size of PowerSchool’s reach, school districts around the country and world are impacted by the breach.
Beyond the Lower Merion School District, the Oxford Area School District in Southern Chester County also recently announced to its community that it was also affected by the breach.
PowerSchool has said it will offer identity theft and credit monitoring services to those impacted by the breach.
The Lower Merion School District said it has its own cybersecurity contractor looking into the breach.
