PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The former mayor of Lumberton Township is accused of faking signatures to get her name on the ballot in June’s primary in New Jersey.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges against Gina LaPlaca and her husband, Jason Carty, for allegedly fraudulently placing her name on the Democratic primary ballot in the Lumberton Township Committee race.
Investigators found that multiple people denied signing LaPlaca’s nominating petition, despite their names appearing on it.
LaPlaca was previously sentenced earlier this year for driving under the influence while her toddler was in the back seat of her car.
The couple is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Mount Holly on Sept. 21.
