PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Customs officers have arrested a New England man at Philadelphia International Airport after they said he was trying to flee the country to avoid felony charges.

Customs and Border Protection apprehended 41-year-old Thomas Cooley of Somerset County, Maine and turned him over to Tinicum Township Police.

Cooley was charged in Maine with sexual assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and domestic violence stalking. Officials said he also faced charges related to pepper-spraying arresting officers.

CBP encountered Cooley at his departure gate at PHL, where he was trying to board a flight for Frankfurt, Germany on a one-way ticket.

Somerset County sheriffs confirmed with CBP that Cooley is the subject of an active extradition warrant. Tinicum Police have begun his extradition.
