PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Chester County are looking for the driver who hit a deer that smashed into another car and killed a Malvern Prep student.

It happened around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning on Route 322 in West Bradford Township.

Police say a black Toyota Sienna hit the deer, launching the animal to the other side of the road, where it went through the windshield of a car going the other way. The Toyota fled the scene.

Malvern Prep identified the victim as Kevin Donahue, a member of the class of 2027.

“It’s just devastating for a kid, I mean, first day back at school. It’s always horrible when someone drives away and you know that obviously you hit something,” said a woman who lives nearby. She said deer are a big problem in the area.

According to PennDOT, there were more than 800 crashes involving deer in the Philly-area last year. One was fatal.
