PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police have arrested a man they say attempted to sexually assault a child at a recreation center in North Philly.

Authorities say 32-year-old Darren Boyer first encountered the child on March 28 inside the Red Fox Corner store at the intersection of 22nd Street and Lehigh Avenue, just across the street from Dobbins High School. He then followed the child to the Cecil B. Moore Rec Center.

The attempted sexual assault happened around 9:15 p.m.

Authorities have not released information on Boyer's charges or the identity and age of the victim.

Editor’s update, April 8, 2025:
In December 2024, Boyer pleaded guilty to a single charge — attempt of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse — in a deal with prosecutors, but the District Attorney’s Office dropped the 12 other remaining charges. Judge Tracy Brandeis Roman sentenced Boyer to less than two years in prison, with four years of probation. Boyer was also ordered not to have any contact or live with any children, even if they are biological, unless approved by the court. Additional restrictions involving the sex offender registry list were put in the order.
