PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware State Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into two government buildings and stealing money and a state-owned car over the weekend.
Just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, the burglar alarm went off at the Delaware State Bureau of Identification, located on South Bay Road in Dover.
Police said a masked man had forced his way inside the public access door using a steel sewer lid. Once inside, authorities said he stole money and damaged property.
The suspect also broke into another government building on the same property, the Office of Management and Budget Fleet Services. According to investigators, the suspect used a steel sewer lid in this break-in as well.
Police said the suspect then removed key fobs, stole a state-owned Ford Mustang Mach-E, and drove it recklessly in the parking lot, hitting two parked cars. Investigators later found a bank bag of stolen money that the suspect had discarded in the parking lot.
The Mustang was abandoned on Carpenter’s Bridge Road. Police found the suspect, 29-year-old Isiah Worthy, walking nearby on Canterbury Road with the additional stolen money.
Worthy faces felony charges of burglary, vehicle theft, possession of tools for unlawful entry, and wearing a mask while committing a felony. He has been arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution.
Officials said fingerprinting services will not be available at the State Bureau of Identification on Monday, but all other services can proceed as usual.
