PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has been charged in the death of a 10-year-old girl who shot herself with an unsecured gun, authorities say.

Tyree Miles, who is the child’s uncle, was arrested over the weekend and faces involuntary manslaughter and gun-related offenses.

Police say the girl shot herself in the head while in the back bedroom of a home on Whitby Avenue near 55th Street in Southwest Philadelphia.

The shooting happened just more than a week after another 10-year-old shot and killed himself accidentally, when other children were home.
