PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 27-year-old Philadelphia man accused of attacking and taunting homeless people in Center City while his friends recorded him is now charged with assault.
On July 4, police said Naeem Morgan walked around Center City, near the Pennsylvania Convention Center and Reading Terminal Market, and assaulted six people who were sleeping or sitting on the sidewalk.
In a video, sources said Morgan pulls down the blanket of a naked woman and taunts her. Several times, he is heard asking why the victims won’t get jobs.
Police said Morgan repeatedly hit one man with his own backpack and threw bottles at another.
According to law enforcement sources, three others, who seem to be Morgan’s friends, recorded the assaults, sometimes laughing and jeering.
Police became aware of the video, which was posted on social media, a few days ago, and quickly identified Morgan. The 27-year-old has been arrested and is charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
