PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania State Police said troopers arrested a man who stole thousands of dollars from a bank in Chester County, then crashed his car while trying to flee.

It happened just before 11 a.m. Friday at the Santander Bank on Gap Newport Pike in Avondale.

Nicholas Casaburri, of Leominster, Massachusetts, is accused of entering the bank, brandishing a knife and demanding money. He was given $11,350 in cash and then fled the scene.

Police pursued him in a high-speed chase. Investigators said Casaburri’s car made “minor contact” with a police vehicle but sped away. Eventually, the 44-year-old suspect lost control of his car and crashed on Clay Creek Road, near West Street Road.

He was taken into custody and brought to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries.

Troopers were able to recover the stolen cash from his car.

Casaburri has been charged with several offenses, including robbery, fleeing, and assaulting an officer.
