NJ man charged in Del. hit-and-run that killed 2 teens

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A New Jersey man is facing multiple charges after a deadly hit-and-run crash killed two teenagers in Delaware over the weekend.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on southbound DuPont Parkway in Townsend.


Investigators said a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, both from Townsend, were walking with an e-bike near the left lane of the roadway when they were struck by a Nissan Altima.

Police said the driver initially stopped after the collision but then left the scene.

Both teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers later located the Nissan traveling on DuPont Parkway in Smyrna and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Nizaiah Ellis, of Newfield, New Jersey, was arrested.

Ellis is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death and one count of failing to report a collision resulting in death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
